What exactly is an Air/Water heat pump? This heating system captures outside heat (either through the air using aerothermal systems or in the ground by deploying a geothermal system) before redistributing it inside the home. A heat pump captures heat from outside, before directing it indoors via a hot water circuit which then powers up the heat emitters. It stores heat from outside to generate warm water within storage tanks. Its cycle can be reversed with cold water directed towards the central heating circuit (based on emitter compatibility), cooling residences by as much as 6 degrees Celsius (°C). How to distinguish monobloc and split models? Discover our two Air/Water heat pump models – monobloc and split. Despite both ranges deploying thermodynamic solutions, there are crucial differences in how each model is configured. Split heat pumps This model is the most widely used. It includes two units: one outside the home and one inside, powered by hydraulics. Refrigerant circulates between both units. Conversely, the heat exchanger is found inside, in the hydraulics unit, which then supplies hot water to the home’s central heating network and even produces domestic hot water (DHW). Monobloc heat pumps Atlantic’s monobloc heat pumps include an outdoor unit and a hydraulics unit located inside the home. Heat exchange occurs entirely in the outdoor unit, including a fan, compressor and heat exchanger. The circuit inside the outdoor unit is contained in an airtight seal and pre-charged with refrigerant. The water discharged from this unit is already hot enough to supply the home’s central heating system and even produces DHW. How a heat pump works Atlantic’s launched monobloc range provides a “compact” indoor unit model, similar to an almost entirely outdoor monobloc with significant space freed up! Acoustics or how to generate ultra-silent output Year after year, we have sought to design the perfect heat pump. Intended both for renovation and new-build projects. Acoustic discretion is key to achieving such ambitions since an ideal heat pump is one that appears invisible. With Atlantic, you are in good hands as our heat pumps are some of the most whisper-quiet! Acoustic power and pressure • Acoustic power represents the sound emitted by a source, irrespective of its environment. It reflects the raw power of sound, as measured in a laboratory. • Acoustic pressure refers to sound detected by the human ear based on the environment and the distance from which the sound is measured. Useful tip Doubling the distance from the sound source serves to reduce acoustic pressure by 6 dB(A). By way of example, an appliance producing noise of 54 dB(A) at a 2-metre distance will see its level drop to 48 dB(A) by moving 4 metres away from the source, and so on. How do you calculate heat pump efficiency? To ensure energy-efficient and eco-responsible practices, assessing your heat pump performance is a must! Their efficiency is calculated using 3 key indicators, namely COP, ETAS and SCOP. COP This stands for ‘coefficient of performance’, with a focus on evaluating heat pumps in heating mode at a precise temperature. It is the ratio between the amount of energy produced and consumed or used. In short, the higher the COP rating, the more efficient your heat pump. ETAS Expressed as a %, ‘theoretical seasonal energy efficiency’ (or ‘ETAS’) is calculated by converting the SCOP into primary energy, i.e., dividing the SCOP by approximately 2.5. Introduced under the European ErP directive on eco-design for heating appliances, ETAS serves to benchmark the performance of heat pumps against alternative heating systems, particularly boilers. To obtain a French energy savings certificate (CEE), heat pumps must score an ETAS greater than or equal to: 111% medium- to high-temperature heat pumps 126% low-temperature heat pumps Did you know? According to France’s National Environmental Agency, Ademe, a minimum of ‘3’ represents a solid COP score. How is COP calculated? Heating mode output/electrical power use. Example: COP = 3.5 kW/1 kW = 3.5 SCOP This HP Keymark-certified metric measures heat pumps’ ‘seasonal coefficient of performance’ in heating mode. Unlike COP, it factors in energy consumption throughout a heating season. As a result, SCOP is regarded as a more reliable indicator of performance since it more accurately represents real-life operating conditions. SCOP temperatures tend to be either 35°C, which is best suited to heat pumps installed with underfloor heating, or 55°C to better reflect radiators.
