The heat pump water heater follows the same operating procedure as a heat pump, by absorbing heat from outdoors and using the energy to heat water. The fan 1 draws in ambient air, transferring its energy to the cooling agent in the evaporator 2, transforming it from liquid to gas. The gas is then further heated by compression 3. In the condenser 4, the gas transfers heat accumulated to the water tank. As it gets colder, it transforms back into a liquid. The pressure of the liquid is further reduced by the expansion valve 5. Heat pump water heater technology The heat pump water heater operates by extracting heat from the surrounding air and transferring it to a water storage tank. Unlike traditional electric water heaters that generate heat directly, heat pump water heaters (HPWH) transfer heat from the surrounding air to the water using thermodynamic processes. This makes them significantly more energyefficient compared to regular water heaters that rely on electric resistance. 86
